Dog Whistle

How to use the online dog whistle for the first time

Open onlinedogwhistle.com, lower your device’s system volume, and keep its speaker away from ears. Choose a frequency and use hold mode for a brief first playback. Release the control to stop. Read the current setting before playing again, and stop immediately if anyone seems uncomfortable.

Prepare the page and sound controls

Begin with the page visible and your device within easy reach. Lower system volume before touching a sound control. The app’s gain percentage does not state the sound level beside the speaker. Keep the device away from your ears and the dog’s ears. Dogs vary, so a response is never promised. Read the visible frequency and gain values before starting. A short first playback gives you a chance to check the controls without leaving a tone running while you search the page.

  • Use the page’s playback control to start sound deliberately.
  • Keep a clear way to stop playback throughout the session.

Choose a setting and playback mode

The frequency range starts at 440 Hz. Its upper limit is the whole-number result of the actual AudioContext sample rate multiplied by 0.45. You can make coarse changes in 100 Hz steps. Five presets select 4, 8, 12, 16, or 18 kHz, subject to that upper limit. A preset above the limit is reduced to the cap. Always read the resulting setting. Start with steady mode if you want to hear a continuous tone. Pulse and warble provide other playback patterns. The app applies a 10 ms cosine fade to tone starts and stops.

  • Hold mode plays while you keep the control pressed.
  • Toggle mode keeps playback running until you stop it.

Practise stopping before trying other sounds

Release the hold control, or stop a toggled tone with its control. On a keyboard, Space switches playback and Escape stops it when you are outside a typing field. The app also stops when the tab becomes hidden, audio is interrupted, or a devicechange signal arrives. Browser reports of device changes are incomplete. Stop manually before changing speakers or headphones. A very quiet high tone does not justify raising volume sharply. Many phone and laptop speakers cannot reproduce ultrasonic frequencies, even when the page can generate the corresponding digital signal.

  • Check that playback has stopped before changing your audio output.
  • End the sound at once if it causes discomfort.

Try the other controls with clear expectations

Classic and soft clickers provide separate marker sounds. Quick yap is a synthetic marker. The reaction feature plays a four-second burst, then lets you choose reacted or noReaction. The last three dated outcomes stay locally, and a clear action removes them. These entries record your choices; they do not prove hearing ability or training success. Three preset drills are also available. Recall uses 8000 Hz for 0.8 seconds, with three-second gaps, repeated three times. Attention uses 12000 Hz for 0.3 seconds, a 1.5-second gap, then 1.2 seconds on. Settle uses 4000 Hz for two seconds. The total allowance is three drill runs per day, resetting at midnight UTC.

  • Read a drill’s timing before spending a run.
  • Use the 20 searchable, shareable text lessons for more operating guidance.
  1. Open the site with an internet connection for the first visit, then lower system volume and check the speaker’s position.
  2. Read the current frequency, choose steady playback, and confirm that software gain is at a low setting.
  3. Press briefly in hold mode, release, and check that the sound has stopped before trying another setting.
  4. Finish by stopping playback. Clear any local reaction outcomes you do not want to keep.
Can I use the app without a connection later?

The PWA can work after its initial cache completes successfully. Open it once online first. Offline operation is not guaranteed across every browser or device.

Does the app record sound or require an account?

There is no microphone use, upload, account, advertising, or telemetry. Hosting metadata still exists. Reaction outcomes are stored locally rather than uploaded as a personal history.

Can I save my own drill or cue?

The app has three preset drills. It does not offer custom cues, timers, macros, favorites, checklists, or a journal. Use the existing controls and read their displayed settings.
