How to Use the Dog Whistle Offline
Open onlinedogwhistle.com while connected and let its first successful cache finish. Then disconnect and reopen the app to check it on your device. Offline use depends on that cached copy. It is not guaranteed across every browser, so check before you need it away from a connection.
Prepare the app while connected
Start with a working connection and open the site in your chosen browser. Allow the initial cache to complete before disconnecting. A page that appeared once is not enough evidence that your offline setup works. The useful check is opening it again without a connection. Use the same device and browser for this check that you expect to use later. If your browser offers installation, you can use that option for convenient access. Still perform the disconnected check afterward. An app icon alone does not prove that the files needed for offline operation are available.
- Load the app before leaving a connected location.
- Disconnect, reopen it, and check both controls and lesson text.
- If the page fails to load, reconnect and repeat the preparation.
Check sound separately from page loading
Once the disconnected page opens, lower system volume before trying a short sound. Keep the device away from ears and stop if anyone seems uncomfortable. The whistle produces a sine tone locally. Its software gain starts at 10% and cannot exceed 25%, but system volume still matters. Select a frequency and read the visible current setting. The five presets are 4, 8, 12, 16, and 18 kHz, subject to the current cap. A loaded interface and a displayed frequency do not prove that a speaker reproduces that frequency. While connected, let the first successful cache finish before testing the app offline.
- Check playback with a deliberate press or click.
- Stop the sound before changing speakers or connecting headphones.
Read lessons and manage local outcomes
The app includes 20 offline text lessons. Search them for a topic, then open the matching text. You can share lessons, although sending or opening a shared link may require a connection. Offline reading on your device does not promise offline access for another person. For the reaction feature, the app plays a four-second burst before offering reacted and noReaction. These are manual observations. The latest three dated outcomes are saved locally. Use the clear action when you want those entries removed. This small record is not a journal, and a selected outcome does not establish a training result. Dogs vary.
- Try a lesson search during your disconnected check.
- Review local outcomes before choosing the clear action.
- There are no favorites or lesson checklists.
Know what offline use does and does not change
Offline operation does not add custom cues, timers, or sound macros. The three preset drills retain their fixed patterns and share a total limit of three runs per day. That allowance resets at midnight UTC, which may differ from your local midnight. The app uses no microphone, uploads, ads, telemetry, or accounts. Hosting metadata still exists when you connect to the site. Browser audio rules also remain relevant: playback may need a direct user action, as described in the Browser audio playback source. If the page opens but stays silent, use its playback control deliberately. Do not treat missing sound as a reason to raise volume sharply.
- Keep the app visible while playing sound; hiding the tab stops playback.
- After an interruption, check the current state before starting again.
- Connect to the internet, open onlinedogwhistle.com, and allow its initial cache to finish.
- Disconnect and reopen the app in the browser you will use later.
- At low system volume, briefly check playback, stop it, and open a text lesson.
- If either check fails, reconnect and prepare the cached copy again before relying on offline access.
Does installing the PWA guarantee offline playback?
No. Offline operation requires a successful initial cache. Check the installed app without a connection on your own device.
Can I read lessons without signing in?
Yes. There are no accounts. The 20 text lessons are available offline after the required files have been cached successfully.
Does offline mode remove the daily drill limit?
No. The three preset drills share three total runs per day, with a UTC reset. Offline use does not provide extra runs.
