Dog Whistle

How to Select the Warble Whistle Pattern

To use warble, lower your system volume, choose a frequency, select Warble, and start playback with hold or toggle. Keep the device away from ears. Read the current setting before playing, and stop if anyone seems uncomfortable. Warble is one of three whistle patterns; selecting it does not promise a particular response from a dog.

Set the frequency before choosing warble

Open the whistle and check the displayed frequency. The five preset choices are 4, 8, 12, 16, and 18 kHz. A preset above the current digital limit is reduced to that limit. Read the resulting value instead of assuming the preset label is the final setting. The coarse controls move in 100 Hz steps. Use those controls when you want a nearby value without jumping to another preset. Stop playback while reviewing several settings so that each new choice is deliberate.

  • Treat the displayed number as the current app setting.
  • Check the value again after choosing a high preset.
  • Keep software gain low while setting up playback.

Choose a pattern and control its playback

Select Warble from the pattern choices. Steady and Pulse are separate options, so check the selected pattern before starting. Hold plays while you keep the control pressed. Toggle starts playback with one activation and stops it with another. Choose hold when you want release to end the sound. Choose toggle only when you can watch the app and stop it directly. The whistle uses a 10 ms cosine fade at its sound edges. That short fade does not replace a low volume setting or your stop control.

  • Use one pattern at a time when checking the controls.
  • End playback before putting the device down.
  • Do not treat warble as a custom frequency sweep editor.

Read the frequency limit correctly

The maximum generated frequency is the actual AudioContext sample rate multiplied by 0.45, rounded down to a whole number. MDN's sample rate reference explains the browser property used for that calculation. This ceiling describes digital sound generation. It does not measure what the speaker produces. Choose your frequency and select Warble before starting playback through hold or toggle. A high displayed value therefore cannot confirm an ultrasonic sound from your hardware. If you cannot hear a setting, do not keep raising volume to compensate. The app is not a hearing test.

  • Separate the generator setting from speaker output.
  • Do not interpret silence as proof of hardware failure.
  • Dogs vary, and a pattern name predicts no result.

Stop, review, and keep records in context

Space toggles playback, and Escape stops it, unless you are typing. The app also stops on tab hide, an interruption, or a devicechange signal. Browser support for that signal is incomplete, so stop manually before changing speakers or headphones. If you use the separate reaction feature, its burst lasts four seconds. You then choose reacted or noReaction. Only the last three dated outcomes are kept locally, and a clear action removes them. These records describe your selected outcome; they do not verify speaker response or prove that warble caused a behavior.

  • Keep the screen in view during toggle playback.
  • Stop at any sign of discomfort.
  • Use the clear action when you want those local outcomes removed.
  1. Reduce system volume and place the device away from ears before opening the whistle controls.
  2. Choose a preset or use the 100 Hz coarse steps, then read the displayed frequency.
  3. Select Warble and use hold or toggle for playback while staying beside the controls.
  4. Stop the sound, review the chosen settings, and leave playback off before switching audio devices.
Can I set my own warble timing?

The app provides a Warble pattern choice. It has no custom cues, timers, FM glide controls, or macros. Use the available pattern without assuming extra editing controls exist.

Does 18 kHz mean my phone produces that frequency?

No. The preset may be reduced to the digital cap, and the speaker may not reproduce the selected frequency. The visible value is an app setting, not a measured acoustic result.

Will warble work without a connection?

Read the current frequency setting before you start the Warble pattern.. Selecting Warble does not promise any particular response from a dog.. Check that the app opens without a connection before relying on that access.
