How to Use the Five Whistle Frequency Presets
Select a preset to request 4000, 8000, 12000, 16000, or 18000 Hz, then check the visible current setting. Each request is limited by the browser audio ceiling. A frequency preset selects a tone value; the app's three preset drills are separate controls with fixed sound lengths and gaps.
Read preset labels as frequency shortcuts
The preset row saves you from moving through many 100 Hz coarse steps. Each label names a requested frequency. The 4 kHz button requests 4000 Hz, while 18 kHz requests 18000 Hz. These labels do not rank quality or predict a dog's response. Select a button while the whistle is stopped, then inspect the visible setting. Keep system volume low before starting playback. Presets do not verify the sound leaving your speaker, and many phone or laptop speakers cannot reproduce ultrasonic frequencies.
- The lower three requests are 4000, 8000, and 12000 Hz.
- The remaining two requests are 16000 and 18000 Hz.
Understand a capped preset value
The app calculates its maximum as floor(actual AudioContext.sampleRate × 0.45). The floor operation rounds the result down to a whole number. MDN explains that the audio context has its own sample rate. If a preset request exceeds the resulting app ceiling, the selected value becomes that ceiling. For example, a 32000 Hz context gives a 14400 Hz maximum. In that case, both the 16 kHz and 18 kHz buttons select 14400 Hz. Read the current value rather than assuming the button label always equals the selected number.
- Two preset buttons can select the same value when both exceed the ceiling.
- The ceiling concerns digital tone generation; it does not certify speaker performance.
Pair the selected value with playback controls
After selecting a preset, choose steady, pulse, or warble and decide between hold and toggle playback. With hold, release the control to end playback. With toggle, use the stop action when finished. Software gain begins at 10% and cannot exceed 25%. Your device volume still affects the output. Keep the speaker away from ears and stop at any discomfort. The 10 ms cosine fade shapes sound edges, but it does not remove the need for low volume. Use Escape to stop or Space to toggle when you are not typing.
- Stop the whistle before moving to another preset during a control check.
- Do not increase loudness to compensate for a high tone that you cannot hear.
Tell frequency buttons apart from drills
A preset frequency is a selected number. A drill is a fixed playback sequence. Recall uses 8000 Hz for 0.8 seconds, with a three-second gap, repeated three times. Attention uses 12000 Hz for 0.3 seconds, a 1.5-second gap, then 1.2 seconds of sound. Settle uses 4000 Hz for two seconds. These names identify app sequences and carry no promise of behavior change. There are three total drill runs per day across the drills, with the allowance resetting at UTC midnight. The app does not offer custom cue sequences or editable timers.
- Review a drill's frequency and timing before starting its fixed sequence.
- Use the ordinary whistle controls when you only want to select a frequency.
- Find the five frequency buttons and choose the requested value while playback is off.
- Compare the resulting display with the button label, especially if the device has a low ceiling.
- Set low device volume, choose the sound mode, and start through hold or toggle.
- End playback, then select another frequency or review a separate drill's fixed timing.
Are the five frequency buttons saved personal settings?
They are fixed shortcuts to the listed values. They are not custom cues or a favorites list. The current display shows the value selected after any ceiling limit.
Will selecting 18 kHz produce a stronger response?
The preset makes no such promise. Dogs differ, and hardware output varies. A larger frequency number does not establish greater loudness, better reproduction, or a more useful response.
Can I use presets without a connection?
After choosing a frequency preset, check the current value shown on screen.. This is not a guarantee for every browser or offline situation. Open it while connected first, then check access before relying on it offline.
